Social experiences for 4th - 6th grade students
Teachers: Tracy Bonaduce, Psychologist/Program Specialist, Shelley Frost, SCCT Drama Teacher, Debbie Klinger, Speech and Language Pathologist
Team Friend is designed for 4th - 6th graders using drama, theater games and video technology to reinforce social skills concepts taught during the class. The use of video is a key educational tool as the students film each other performing skits and scenes they develop based on the social skills concepts. Team Friend encourages students to think creatively and utilize technology in telling their stories. Some topics the class covers are:
Communication, conversation skills
Friendship making skills
Dealing with a bully
Interacting with adults and teachers
Included in each class is stage work where the concepts are performed in both improvisational style and from written works. The students use iPads to film themselves acting out the concepts. Their short films will be shown during the final class where friends and families are invited to watch the movies. Each student receives a DVD that contains all the movies made during the class. The DVD is an educational piece that reinforces all the concepts the student learned during the Team Friend session.
